Senior Pastor
Pastor Tom Swafford is originally from Kansas and is enjoying ministry at WBC. Tom has served churches in Kansas, Indiana, and Iowa. He also served as a part-time prison chaplain in Iowa. Pastor Tom graduated from Kansas State University, Midwestern Baptist Seminary and is currently finishing a Doctorate in Ministry at Midwestern.
Tom and his wife Lynda have seven children in the home. Chrissy, Rachel, Matthew, Amanda, Libby, Becca and Anna. They range in age from 1 year to 14 years of age. Tom enjoys preaching, visiting, and helping others. To learn more about Pastor Tom he has prepared a beliefs statement.
Youth Pastor
Fred Buckley is resident of Overland Park, KS but as a young boy grew up in the Ottawa/Wellsville area and graduated from Williamsburg High School. When Fred was at Williamsburg he noticed a young girl that he began to dated and then married his grade school sweetheart Donna Jean Davis Buckley. They have been married 43 years and have three children, one in overland Park, Travis, one in Shawnee, Robyn and one in Heaven. They also have seven grand children.
Fred attended Allen County Community College, Iola, KS 1964-1966 on a basketball scholarship. This was his lifelong dream. His world came crashing down on him when in a college game he broke both wrists, when he was forced into a wall, ending his basketball career. Basketball was his god at that time.
Then he heard and received the power of the gospel that changed him forever. His life verse is, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek (Romans 1:16). From the beginning it was oblivious God was using him to bring young people to Christ. Fred has led discipleship classes, been the keynote speaker at youth camps, city wide revivals, Kansas City Youth for Christ rallies, school assemblies and has served as pastor in four different churches. He attended Calvary Bible College. He also is the founder of New Covenant Outreach, an organization with a goal of evangelism and discipleship. Although he is now in his sixties his love & compassion for youth continues to grow stronger with each passing day. We are proud to have Fred and Donna on our ministry team at Wellsville Baptist Church.
Commander of AWANA
Donna Thomasson enjoys watching all the Clubbers as they learn how much God loves them! Donna is married to Tim, the best Awana Game Guy EVER. They have four sons: Luke, Nick, Tyler and Chip.
